After decades building a career in the United States, I made a bold decision at 63: I packed up my life and moved to South-East Asia to begin a new chapter. Today I proudly serve clients across Vietnam, Thailand, and the surrounding region through Locked By Nature Asia — offering Sisterlocks™, Brotherlocks™, consultations, and retightening for residents and travelers alike.
My path has taken me from salon floors to executive leadership, education departments, luxury spas, and entrepreneurial ventures. Along the way I’ve trained professionals, mentored consultants, and helped countless clients embrace their natural beauty with confidence.
What has never changed is my belief that hair is personal. It’s more than a style — it’s identity, it’s culture, it’s self-expression, and for many of us, it’s part of our healing journey.

Sisterlocks™ was developed in 1993 by Dr. JoAnne Cornwell, a professor and natural-hair pioneer in San Diego, California. Frustrated by the lack of versatile, low-manipulation options for tightly coiled hair, she created a precision micro-loc technique that works with the hair’s natural texture rather than against it.
The method is built on a patented tool and a carefully mapped parting grid. No extensions, gels, or waxes are used — the hair is interlocked so it can lock naturally, stay light and movable, and be styled, washed, and worn much like loose hair.
Because the technique is exacting, Sisterlocks™ can only be performed by trained, certified consultants — ensuring consistent quality and the integrity of the system worldwide. Brotherlocks™ followed as the counterpart designed for men, applying the same philosophy to coarser and shorter hair.
